M1840 Imported heavy cavalry sword in good condition with its original scabbard. The blade is clean and smooth with only a couple nicks noted on the edge of the blade. There is some modeling and surface pitting noted near the ricasso and upper portion of the blade. The ricasso is marked '525' , a rack number and is blank on the reverse. There is no leather washer.

The brass guard is in good condition and has a nice mellow patina noted throughout. The leather and wire on the grip is tight. It looks to me to be an old re-wrap, but it is nicely done. There is one small area where the wire appears to have been cut or broke, but it has not affected the integrity of the rest of the wire.

The scabbard is in good condition with no damage. Both hangers with rings are present, as is the throat. There are no dents to note, only one very small push, but nothing significant. On the drag is marked '525' matching the sword, which is great because we know for sure that this sword belongs in this scabbard. It fits it like a glove.
