Very clear CDV of Union General Marcellus Monroe Crocker of Indiana. A cool southern backmark of Barr & Young, Army Photographers, Vicksburg, Mississippi. Also on back is "General M.M. Crocker" in period ink.

Crocker and his brigade fought at Shiloh, Corinth, the Vicksburg Campaign (when he most likely had his picture taken), Battle of Jackson, and Champions Hill. Suffering from consumption, he was later ordered to duty in the New Mexico Territory, where it was thought his health might improve. It did and he was then ordered to duty in Nashville, but his health gradually worsened and he died in Washington DC in August of 1865.
