A very clear standing pose CDV of Confederate Major General Howell Cobb, in civilian dress, of Georgia. Backmark is of E. Anthony, New York.

He was a lawyer, congressman, Speaker of the House, Governor of Georgia, and Confederate General, as well as a pro-secessionist. During his role as major general, he was placed in command of the District of Georgia and Florida. During this time, he was responsible of the suggestion that led to the establishment of the Andersonville Prison.
