Item #: FDR21-177

Example of the 3inch Confederate Read shell, believed to be a Houston variant example. Although the shell has been disarmed and preserved, it is in dug condition and indicative of the shells out of the Port Hudson / Louisiana area. There is pitting that can be seen and the iron is stable. It retains 75% of the copper sabot which exhibits beautiful rifling from the Confederate 3-inch rifled gun.

There is chipping off the base which is typical of this type of shell after firing. It has remnants of the wood drive in fuse and you can see the remnants of the prominent sprue near the nose of the shell.
