If you're looking for the one thing to add to your Confederate display, this is it. A rare copy of the Hardee's Rifle and Light Infantry Tactics book published by the Southern Publishing House of Hutton & Freligh of Memphis, Tn. This edition has two volumes which includes the school of the soldier/company and school of the battalion.

All pages appear to be present with some foxing noted. Otherwise all the printed information is easily read, including the plates illustrating the maneuvers. As you can see in the images, the front plate that folds out as been professionally restored / supported to support the fold. The spine is separated as can bee seen, this impacts mostly the cover and not the actual pages. Overall in good condition for rarity and how it was bound originally.

William Hutton co-owned a printing and binding firm with John H. Freligh in Memphis called Hutton & Freligh. They did a lot of business during the Civil War with the Confederacy. After the war, like so many other people, Hutton had to file bankruptcy in 1871. Hutton was a veteran of the Mexican war. He was a private in Co. C, 1st Tenn. Mtd. Infantry. He joined on June 6, 1846 at Lewis Co. TN and mustered in at Columbia TN. He was 23 years of age. He mustered out at New Orleans on May 29 1847 and discharged on a surgeon certificate of disability.
