Below is the first page of the type-written
history ca-1900. It is all written in first person according to
Capt. John Weidemeyer. It starts off at the Battle of Corinth,
Mississippi and continues from there. It goes into details from
those who were wounded, field maneuvers, personal situations,
etc. Some of the battles covered are Corinth, Iuka, Grand Gulf,
Port Gibson, and Champions Hill.
This also details some of the time Capt.
Weidemeyer spent on leave, which consequently is the subject of
a couple of the letters in the grouping. At the end of this
particular section is a complete roster of his company during
their stint with 2nd Cavalry, 8th Division, Missouri State
Guards dated August 28, 1861. Following is a complete roster of
Company F, 6th Missouri Infantry dated February 28th, 1863.
You will also see throughout this particular
piece some hand written notations in period ink to either
corrections or additional information. |
