Pics From The Feb 2008 Dalton Show

We had a terrific time at the 2007 Marietta Show. This was the best show they have had down there yet and I have spoke with several dealers and collectors who attended that concur with that. Big hats off to all the NGRHA members and show board. Also a big thanks to all of our customers who came by our tables and said hi. We set up our Birge Sharpshooter display this time and we had a lot of great comments and questions. It was fun talking to all the relic hunters about their experiences and finds that related to the 66th Illinois in the Atlanta Campaign. We also had the honor of taking home 1st Place in Non-Excavated Category.

Nikki and John Jr. had a nice treat yesterday. Ed Bearss's Ride With Forrest tour came through Dover to tour the Fort Donelson area. Nikki and John Jr. met up with them at Cindy's Catfish house and Mr. Bearss was kind enough to sit with them awhile and visit. John Jr. donned his Confederate kepi and was ready to go with!!!

Dalton Civil War Show Feb 2007

Had a great time at this years Dalton show. This is show is a real sleeper and seems to be growing every year in popularity among dealers and collectors. This will make my 8th Dalton show and it remains one of my favorite. I have been putting together a Birge's Sharpshooter display and was able to display it at this years show. Nikki helped me with the set up and ideas on the backdrop. I had recently purchased a complete photo album with 66th Illinois Sharpshooter photos, most all identified and some of their reunion ribbons. The center piece was a Dimick Rifle, which although is not the contract rifle for the unit, is aesthetically the same. I was able to win Judge's Choice award and very happy to win an award on the first try with this theme. Thanks to Joel Nelson, Christopher Paysinger, Dennis Headlee, Dennis Nunnery, Bob Bailey, Nikki, and of course John Jr. for their help and guidance on the display.

2Nd Annual Fort Donelson Relics Coin & Relic Hunt

144th Anniversary of Perryville

The first weekend of October Nikki, John Jr. and I took off to Perryville for the weekend. The last time I had been to this event was 14 years ago at the 130th Anniversary.

I'm Chief Bugler for the Tennessee Valley Battalion which fielded approximately 275 men for the weekend.

Went Down to visit Dwayne Davis down in Lynchburg, Tn. Dwayne and his wife own and operate a store in the old town square. It wasn't long before John Jr. found a coon skin hat and made Dwayne wear his. Afterwards we went digging for awhile.

August 2006

In August I did a presentation on Forrest's Raid on Johnsonville Depot in 1864. I presented to the Stewart Co. Historical Society in which I am a member.

August 2006

In August I was invited by Fort Donelson National Battlefield to do a photography display. The display not only contains military images, but also includes civilians as well. I also was able to gave 4 presentations over the weekend in the auditorium, which along with the display chronicled the impact photography had on the Civil War and vice versa.

I had a great time and happy to share my collection with the public.

September 2006

Over Labor Day Weekend I was able to take some members of the 50th Tennessee Reenacting group out on a campaign excursion for the evening. We hiked out on a piece of the original battlefield in which Col. Morrison unsuccessfully attacked Maney's Battery on Feb 13th.
