Tight .50cal Smith Cavalry Carbine
Item #: FDR21-135
Here is a really nice example of the .50cal Smith Carbine. The iron throughout is in good condition with very little to no pitting noted. The markings are sharp throughout including the Poultney & Trimble Baltimore Address, The Smith's Patent stamp, the inspector's mark on the barrel, and the serial number underneath - which is matching.
The release to break the gun is present and works. The hinge is tight and there is no wiggle at all. The action is tight and functions properly. As you can see in the barrel, the rifling is good and could be cleaned. The stock is in good condition with no repairs or damage noted. The cartouche is present and sharp. Just a really nice gun overall. The pictures tell the rest.
The Smith carbine saw service with the following volunteer cavalry regiments:7th and 11th Illinois, 6th and 9th Ohio, 1st Connecticut, 1st Massachusetts, , 7th and 17th PA, and the 3rd West Virginia Regiments.
