Confederate Artillery Short Sword
Item #: FDR21-532
A magnificent example of the Confederate short sword believed to either be manufactured by W.J. McElroy out of Macon, Ga or possibly a variation of the E.J. Johnston version of this sword. Either way, there is no doubt that this sword is whistling Dixie. That being said, the unmarked brass handle has a nice toned patina throughout. The blade measures just under 19.25-inches long. You'll also notice a casting flaw at the tip of the sword.
The black wood scabbard, which is rarer than the sword, is all correct in every way. The only apology is the missing lead bead on the brass drag. Otherwise, with the sword placed within, it's an eye-catcher.
This particular piece came out of Texas.
