One of the many 1861 Musket contracts during the Civil War, this one is from the Savage Revolving Firearms Company out of Middletown, Conn. The .58cal musket is in over all great condition and has come out of a longtime collection from the 80's.

The stock is in good condition and shows no signs of damage or repairs. You can see the inspector's cartouche on the flat opposite the lock plate. As you can see on the right side of the stock is an pearl inlay. The iron is has a nice plum brown tone throughout with some pitting noted at the breech due to firing. The barrel bands all appear to be original, the middle one maybe a replacement.

The lock plate has the "Savage R.F.A Co / Middletown Ct" with the "Eagle / US" & "1864" behind the hammer. The hammer is tight and responds to half and full cock. The buttplate has the US on the tang. The bore retains some rifling.

There were around 25,000 of this contract fulfilled.
