VMM plate in dug condition. It has been energetically cleaned at one point. The lead fill on the reverse has considerable ground action as can be seen in the pics. The attachment hooks are long gone. This is similar to the version found on page 342-343 in O'Donnell's buckle book. VMM = Volunteer Militia of Maine. These have been found with and without lead fill and on early battlefields such as Bull Run and other early Virginia battle sites through 1862.
